So it's that time of year – the beginning of another school term, a little bit like the new year – full of good intentions – except these intentions are focused specifically around the contents of your child’s pack lunch box!
I know the feeling of browsing Annabel Karmel’s recipes and swearing your sandwiches will be teddy bear shaped and your fruit will be on skewers, freshly made daily smoothies will sit along side home made dips and crudités – ha ha that lasts about 1 day for me! Then it's back to the reality of knowing Oscar doesn’t really need his sandwiches in the shape of superheroes and reminding myself it’s a pack lunch for a 5-year-old (not canapés for a dinner party!), and besides it wastes so much bread cutting shapes out of sandwiches!
So at Oscar and Jemima’s we will keep things real, simple, homely and full of love as always :) - basically perfect for any of your down-to-earth mums that can relate to pack lunch turmoil.
What to expect and how to get ahead
There are no complicated recipes, again it's about giving you a week's worth of inspiration and a shopping list. We believe that it is good to vary your kids' pack lunches to keep them interested in food and curious about new tastes, but when we have dinners to think about, pack lunches seem to get pushed to the bottom of the priority pile and we fall into habits of repeating the same favourites over and over again, right!?
We encourage you to give our kid's pack lunch ideas a go. Plus, there are also some free super cute lunch notes you can download and print, to include in your child’s pack lunch – this is something I make the time to do.
When I first met my husband he used to leave me notes everywhere and I loved them – always a lovely surprise saying something to make me smile and I wanted to share that feeling with Oscar. Needless to say after 8 years of marriage this no longer happens ;) but I now take pleasure in doing it for Oscar instead.
It’s a small gesture that's easy to do and means so much to your child. Even if it's once a week, try and give it go – they will love it!
